Where is SICM located?

Most of our programmes take place at our centre in North Harrow. Our site is currently being redeveloped so we are using the Portakabin and 39 Gloucester Road for our programmes.

What does SICM stand for?

SICM is an abbreviation for Shi’a Ithna’ashari Community of Middlesex

What are SICM, Mahfil Ali, BW Foundation and The Salaam Centre?

SICM is the name of the organisation. It stands for Shi’a Ithna’ashari Community of Middlesex.

Mahfil Ali is another name which is often used for the premises that SICM use in North Harrow.

BW Foundation is the name of our charitable arm.

The Salaam Centre is our exciting new development which is taking place at the same location as our current premises. You can find out more information here.

Who can attend the programmes?

Many of our programmes are open to all. Some programmes are for women only or people of a specific age group. These are mentioned under the event itself.

Although many of our programmes include prayers, member of all faiths and none are welcome to attend the events. We do hold programmes where we specifically invite members of other communities including during Ramadan and for our Interfaith events. Click here to see more about our Interfaith programmes.

Does SICM have membership?

Yes, SICM has a form of membership. Our members are known as Councillors and Associates.

If you would like to apply to become a member, you would need to fill in a form and attend one of our Annual General Meetings where you may be accepted initially as an Associate Member. You can apply to become a Councillor a year after being an Associate. More details including the forms are in the About Us section.

Membership is free.

Does SICM have a constitution?

What is SICM's policy for the start of the Islamic month?
  1. The moon must be sighted by two independent sources.
  2. The claim of the moon that has been sighted must be in an area where it was possible to sight the moon according to the moonsighting charts.
  3. We share the night with the area where the moon was sighted.

This is in accordance with the rulings of the late Ayatullah Al-Khoei.

Does SICM hold daily prayers?

We currently do not hold daily prayers at our centre.

Does SICM hold Jum'ah Salaat on Fridays?

SICM does not hold Jum’ah prayers on Fridays. Jum’ah prayers is held in Hujjat Imambargh, Stanmore (KSIMC) which is nearby.
