A report on British Muslim civil society (published on 16th January 2023) looks at the work that SICM has done over the years and describes us as “one of the most innovative projects of Britain’s vibrant Shia Muslim community”
The Economist - The Salaam Centre and Third Generation Muslims
The Economist wrote a piece looking at how third generation Muslims in the West have developed. They used our community as a centre-piece of the article and also talked about The Salaam Centre as an example of centres of the future.
Harrow Times - Visit My Mosque (2018)
The Harrow Times reported on SICM’s Visit My Mosque event in February 2018. They reported: “Politicians, community activists and faith leaders came together at a mosque as part of a national campaign to encourage tolerance in society.” They mentioned the different faith leaders that attended and the local MP Gareth Thomas.
APPG - Faith as Emergency Service (2017)
The APPG on British Muslims reported on the British Muslim charitable contributions to the UK and had a large section on SICM’s contribution to Soup Kitchens but also looked at SICM’s relationship with other communities in the local area.
APPG - A Merry Muslim Christmas (2017)
The APPG on British Muslims reported on the generosity of Muslims during the Winter months. SICM was specifically highlighted in the report for the help we provide to West London Churches Homeless Concern as well as our regular attendance at Midnight Mass.
The Guardian - Visit My Mosque (2017)
The Guardian reported on the Visit My Mosque event held at various centres nationwide in February 2017. They featured a long quote from Kumail Versi (Executive Committee Member) and the main image within the text was of the programme at Mahfil Ali.
Harrow Times - Visit My Mosque (2016)
Harrow Times published an article about mosques in Harrow opening their doors for Visit My Mosque in 2016. They focused on Stanmore mosque as well as SICM. They published an extensive quote as well as details of the programme which included interfaith speakers.
Mirror - Midnight Mass (2015)
The Mirror reported on our yearly attendance to Midnight Mass at St Alban’s Church in 2015 to show how ‘peace on earth and goodwill to all men’ is still alive. The article included quotes from members of SICM as well as Eileen Eggington from St. Alban’s Church.
Al Arabiyya (2015)
Our Ramadan programme has been used as an example of events held during the month by Al Arabiyya. The article looked at the example of Iftar but also the way in which we open the doors to local communities as well as the building of The Salaam Centre.
