The talk will focus on:
- How continually lecturing on “The Role of Women”, in Islam, perpetuates the “othering “ of Muslim women.
- The impact of inherited religious texts and their (predominantly male) interpretations on gender role assigning.
- The need for space for women to shape visions, roles and jurisprudential laws.

Muhammed Reza studied Computer Science at City University. He then went on to complete a BA in Islamic Studies at Middlesex University whilst simultaneously studying the traditional Islamic Sciences at the Islamic Seminary in London. He has also studied Advanced Arabic Language, Grammar and Poetry at the University of Damascus.
He completed an MA in Islamic studies completed in 2010 at Middlesex University and has also completed a second MA at Cardiff Univeristy in “Islam in Contemporary Britain”, as a precursor to a PhD research. Concurrent with his position as a lecturer at the Al-Mahdi Institute, Shaykh Tajri is also a PhD candidate at Lancaster University’s Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion.
