Faizal Dawjee was appointed in 1998 as Director of Media Services in the Government Communication and Information System, which was located in the Office of President Thabo Mbeki.

Prior to that he was deployed as a Communications consultant in the Reconstruction and Development Programme in the Office, which was situated in President Nelson Mandela’s office.

As a freelance journalist, Faizal covered the war in the former Yugoslavia (Bosnia and Croatia) from 1992-1993 and in 1985 he covered the war in Afghanistan.

He was Editor of Al-Qalam (The Pen), anti-apartheid Muslim newspaper in South Africa from 1986 to 1989.

Currently Faizal is the Director of News and Current Affairs for a newly licensed Free to Air Commercial TV network in South Africa.
