Decolonial resistance in Lebanon and the Middle East

Sarah is a native New Yorker who comes to Leeds via Johannesburg. Originally, she was based in the humanities working on art, music and literature; however, while working in these fields she encountered a spiritual crisis and found solace in Islam and decolonial resistance frameworks.

She is inspired by theologies of liberation, focusing primarily on Critical Muslim Studies. She has conducted ethnographies of Islamic activism in Iran, Lebanon and Senegal, and co-authored several research reports on Islamophobia and the funding of Israel’s occupation of Palestine with Spinwatch.

Her monograph entitled Faith and Resistance: The Poltitics of Love and War in Lebanon was published under the Decolonial Studies, Postcolonial Horizons series by Pluto Press.

She received her PhD in social science from Syracuse University, MA in international affairs from The New School and BA in literature and art history from Goldsmiths.
