Salaat followed by Qur’an recitation and the main talk by Dr Jennifer Philippa Eggert entitled “Gender and Counterextremism”. In particular, she will focus on why it is important to take gender into account when countering violent extremism. She will bring in both her academic expertise and her experience as a practitioner working on the topic and discuss the topic with reference to different types of extremism, e.g. Islamist-inspired extremism, right-wing extremism etc.

Dr Jennifer Philippa Eggert is a researcher and practitioner working on women, gender, political violence and counterextremism in Europe and the Arab world. She was a Postdoc Fellow at the University of Warwick and a Visiting Fellow at Princeton University and at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She has published on women in ISIS and Al-Qaeda and on women’s roles in PVE/CVE in Germany, UK and Lebanon. Jennifer works as a facilitator of counter-extremism and community empowerment training and has several years of work experience in civic education, intercultural dialogue and counterextremism in Europe, the Middle East and South Asia.
